Survival in a smart home (part 1) hard
In a smart home, it doesn't matter if it's a purchased or self-made smart home, something always breaks down, something stops working correctly, or as intended, communication is lost and different connections are not established, and sensors start sending the wrong value and something needs to be done about it, of course, something turns itself on or off, and in general the house can arrange an uprising of machines, and then of course from comfort and comfort, a smart home turns into a real survival.
Of course, to make a smart home, it seems that you can buy some cheap Chinese devices, and in principle, the more the better, buy different devices, somehow connect them together, but of course no one can give any reliability and guarantee that it will all work as we would like.
For example, there are smart sockets that can turn off or not turn on when necessary, or for example when electricity is applied or when electricity is lost, they may not turn on in the mode that we would like, and of course there are even cases when the socket can just turn off for unknown reasons.
Of course, this may be related to the socket, the iron part of it, or the software part, and in general there may be a software error in the code or in the script, but this is practically very difficult to understand, very often, and of course it is easier to hope that this will not happen again and not take any special actions.
Also for example switches, for example wired, of course I have them that work on wi-fi and that work on zigbee, but also with it there are different problems, they of course often work correctly, but sometimes for example the switch may not turn on if especially on wi-fi working or even there are those that work according to Zigby, they may also not turn on quickly or turn off at an incomprehensible point in time, and of course it is difficult to understand the very reason for this action and you just need to actually put up with it, even if, for example, you went to the bathroom and the light turned off, then you need to log out and turn it on manually again and ask someone.
Of course, you can put a smart speaker in the bathroom, and for example ask for it, or place an additional switch there so that you can click on it, or wave your hands there, if there is some kind of motion sensor that could turn this switch back on.
I mainly use wired smart switches that can work even if the connection is lost, either with wi-fi or zigbee, they will still continue to turn on or off, but since inside it is still done logically, that is, these switches are not physical relays that switch, then of course they also have internal hang-up of some kind and then even pressing the buttons does not lead to any action and the only way to somehow reanimate them is simply to turn off the switch in the electric shield and turn on the switch.
I have quite a lot of smart relays bought, but they are almost all buggy, that is, I have relays that are from sonoff, there are relays from tuya, there are those that work on wi-fi, there are those that work on zigbee, there are single-channel, multi-channel, there are even homemade relays on different microcontrollers, but of course all this actually works very buggy, it is not clear why, either because of the small size, or because of some other reasons, but of course they do not work very reliably and since they do not have physical control yet, only some kind of wireless, then, of course, you still need to provide that these relays can be somehow turned off or turned on when necessary, but it often happens that of course, like any other devices, they can turn on the wrong mode when the power is lost, but just with the relay, the situation is probably the least common, after all they work and restore their mode usually correctly.
There are also drivers of LED strips, they certainly work well in principle, these are drivers working on zigbee, but of course there are also difficulties with them, when they either turn on with some delay, and this delay can be quite very large up to 10 seconds, but also since there are no physical switches on these drivers, and in general, all LED drivers are actually controlled only wirelessly, that is, either this is some kind of wireless scenario switch, or some kind of voice control, or from the phone control of these tapes and of course you need to, so that there is some script that allows, for example, from this wireless switch to control this tape, and this script may also stop working at some point in time for some reason, and of course this tape can not be turned on or off, but these drivers specifically, I have two two different ones manufacturers, and bought, well, of course, also Chinese, but not the cheapest manufacturers and not the cheapest drivers were, but of course they are too, there are problems with them, although they have the option in the settings to make them restore their previous value when the power supply is lost and it is turned on, but for some reason it does not work and in fact they always turn on when the electricity is turned off and on, and I'm waiting for them to turn on in the middle of the night and I will There are also smart lamps that are of course the tiniest and in general never and no one for anything, I will not advise you to buy these paws, of course they are for some specific solution, point, there they can be useful quickly, but as a full-fledged solution for controlling light in a smart home, this is probably the worst solution that you can come up with.
I have only one lamp from Yeelight, after that I basically didn't even look in this direction anymore and buy them, this lamp is in a certain place, this is a certain lamp on the balcony, I bought it specifically in order to make beautiful color lighting, and this is the only way to use it applications in principle, but even for example this lamp, although it seems to be branded and good, and cost quite a lot, it also has a special mode so that it turns on or off when reconnecting electricity, but in fact, it always turns on regardless of anything if the electricity was lost, and this is not very convenient because it also has no physical control, there is of course a physical button that was originally on a regular switch, but of course the first thing I did was remove this button and directly closed the contacts for this light bulb, because that someone always turns off this switch, and then this lamp does not work at all, but of course it is impossible to control this button, that is, accordingly, there are of course special switches for yeelight, which just supports the mode of such control, that is, it does not actually completely break the power connection and this lamp continues to function anyway, that is, it can turn on and on wirelessly at the same time.
But this switch is expensive and in fact it's just a physical switch, and no smart and overpay money for it also makes no sense.
Probably somehow manufacturers of course test their devices, but in fact it is not clear how they do it, because when I bought smart wireless switches, it seems to be from a good manufacturer, but for some reason unclear, these are zigbee switches, and when the connection is lost, they switch to some kind of permanent pairing mode, starts blinking all the LEDs and until the battery is put in, and the battery there is very small CR 2032 and of course it is not enough to do this for a long time, well, it quickly sits down, I have already spent a whole bunch of such batteries in this switch, and moreover I had two different ones, bought at different times, and they both work the same with such errors, so they even came to buy a third switch, just to understand what this is due to, a slightly different manufacturer, also a Chinese switch, but I already looked at the circuitry as it looks and in principle only in this case it turned out that when the zigbee network disappears, it just blinks for five seconds and then basically goes into sleep mode.
This is the correct behavior of this switch and of course it can be used in a smart home.
Automation in a smart home should be useful and create additional comfort, but sometimes everything goes wrong… The reasons for this, and how to configure everything, see on my channel.
